exhaust emissions, Lexus uses an
environmental performance assessment
system knows as "the Eco-Vehicle
Assessment System" as part of an effort
to reduce the environmental burned of

Based on a belief that is
critical to reduce the generation of
exhaust emissions itself, engineers
equipped the engine with system designed
to ensure efficient combustion of fuel,
including VVT-iE and a device that
refines the air-fuel ratio. They also
added a two-stage, three-way catalyst
that simultaneously reduces pollutants
such as NOx and NMHC (Non-methane
hydrocarbons) in the exhaust gases. The
