– speed automatic transmission |
|
An automotive
engineer will tell you that there is an inherent
contradiction between fast acceleration and good
fuel economy. Fast acceleration requires low
gearing, while good fuel economy relies on high
gearing. |

Lightweight Rigidity and Quietness |
|
The transmission
case is a one - piece design, die – cast in
aluminum to minimize weight and for maximum
rigidity. The use of aluminum rather than steel
for some of the transmission components has
achieved significant weight saving. To help
realize the ultimate quietness, the precision
and strength of each gear tooth have been
maximized by the use micro – laser technology. |

Electric Power Steering System |
|
The LS sensitively
anticipates the degree of steering assistance
you require and gives you a precise feel for the
car's progress. The LS is equipped with a high –
power, speed – sensitive EPS system. This
compact, lightweight, electrically – assisted
system offers noise – free operation and
excellent maneuverability, with a class –
leading minimum turning radius. |

The refined of L-finesse |
|
In designing the LS
befitting its statues as the Lexus flagship we
aimed to achieve the ultimate expression of the
Lexus original design philosophy of L-finesse,
which breathes life into the physical from of
the Lexus experience of the Lexus original
design philosophy of L-finesse aims to achieve
the dynamic fusion of modern "Leading – edge". |

Relaxation System |
|
The rear seat
behind the front passenger's seat has a rear
seat Relaxation system which uses an innovative
system of pneumatic chambers and vibrators in
seatback to provide the occupant with soothing
comfort. |

Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management |
|
The LS, as you would expect, is equipped with a
wide range of safety and stability feature and
driving aids such as TRC (Traction Control
System ), VSC (Vehicle Stability Control ), ABS
( Anti – lock Brake System ) with EBD
(Electronic Brake Force Distribution ) and EPS
system ( Electric Power Steering System). |

VVT – iE System |
|
Another world first for Lexus is VVT- Ie our
electrically – activated variable intake valve
timing system. Using an electric motor to move
the valves ( rather than the hydraulic pressure
of conventional systems), the system is faster
to respond and gives greater engine flexibility,
thus improving torque and fuel economy over a
wider range of engine speeds. |

Pre-Collision System (PCS) |
|
A front-mounted millimeter-wave radar sensor on the available Pre-Collision System (PCS) constantly monitors the distance and closing speed of a vehicle ahead. When the system's computer determines that a frontal collision is unavoidable, the PCS preemptively tightens the front seatbelts and preps the Brake Assist for increased braking pressure the moment the driver steps on the brake pedal.
